How to connect and confirm a phone number

3 min read Last updated 1 August 2026

Connecting a phone number lets people confirm that a number really belongs to you or your business. Mobiles and landlines are both supported.

How it works

  1. Add the number in Dashboard › Identifiers.
  2. VERIFIED checks whether it is a mobile or a landline.
  3. You choose how to receive the code.
  4. Enter the six-digit code to confirm.

Mobile or landline

A mobile can receive a text message or an automated call. A landline can only receive a call, so the text option is not offered, because a code sent by text to a landline would never arrive.

On the call, the code is read aloud. Have something to write with before you answer.

If the code does not arrive

  • Check the number, including the country.
  • Confirm your phone has signal and is not blocking unknown numbers.
  • Wait a moment before requesting another. There is a short cooldown between codes.
  • If you chose a text and it has not come, try the call option instead.

Landlines and shared numbers

If the number is a landline or a switchboard, VERIFIED will suggest connecting it to a Business Profile rather than a personal one. Confirming a switchboard proves you can access the number. It does not establish that you are its only user, and the product does not claim otherwise.

If the number is already connected elsewhere

A number confirmed on another profile cannot simply be added to yours. You can request a transfer, which requires you to prove current control by passing a fresh check. The previous holder is told the number moved, but you are not told who they were.

What confirmation proves

It proves you received and entered a code sent to that number at that time. It does not prove legal ownership, and it does not mean a call showing that number is genuinely from you, as caller ID can be spoofed.
