How to claim a Business Profile

4 min read Last updated 1 August 2026

Some businesses already appear on VERIFIED before anyone from the business has joined. Claiming one connects it to your account so you control what it shows.

Why a business may already be listed

A Business Profile can exist before anyone claims it. That means people can search for the business and see that it has not yet been claimed, which is itself useful information.

An unclaimed profile shows no confirmed identifiers and no confirmed affiliations. Claiming it is what lets you add those.

Before you start

You will need a VERIFIED Account of your own. Claiming a business connects it to you as a person, which is deliberate: someone accountable should stand behind a business profile.

Making the claim

  1. Search for the business and open its profile.
  2. Choose Claim this business.
  3. Confirm your affiliation to it and your role.
  4. Confirm control of something that belongs to the business, such as its domain or a work email address on that domain.

What proves control

Confirming a domain is the strongest evidence, because it requires adding a DNS record only someone with administrative access can add. A work email address on that domain is also strong. A personal email address is not, and will not complete a claim on its own.

If someone else has already claimed it

You will not be told who holds it. That is deliberate, and protects both of you. Contact Support and choose Business ownership dispute; this goes to a person rather than an automated check, and we will ask both parties for evidence.

What claiming does not do

Claiming a business confirms that you control it now. It is not a legal determination of ownership, and it does not verify the business itself. Business verification is a separate step that appears once the claim is complete.
