Payments Confirmation of Payee

VERIFIED vs Confirmation of Payee

Two different checks for one better-informed payment decision.

VERIFIED lets you check payment instructions against the person or organization who issued them. Confirmation of Payee, run by your bank, checks the account details you enter against the recipient bank’s records. They work best together.

Confirmation of Payee: Match

VERIFIED checks what the recipient has published. Your bank checks the account information.

VERIFIED

“Did these payment instructions come from the identity I’m dealing with?”

Compares the BSB and account number you’ve been given with the bank details currently published by that VERIFIED person or organization.

Confirmation of Payee

“Do the details I’ve entered match the recipient bank’s records?”

Compares the account name, BSB and account number you enter with information held by the recipient’s bank, as part of making the payment.

When each check happens

VERIFIED is there before you reach the payment screen. Confirmation of Payee appears inside it.

  1. Payment instructions arrive

An invoice, a quote, a contract, or an email saying the bank details have changed.

  2. Check on VERIFIED

Find the organization, then enter the BSB and account number you were given.

  3. Pay in your banking app

Review the Confirmation of Payee result: match, close match or no match.

  4. You decide

Weigh what both checks told you before sending the money.

An invoice arrives with new bank details

Search VERIFIED for Balmari Pty Ltd and confirm it’s the organization you deal with. Then enter the BSB and account number from the invoice.

If they don’t match, don’t assume fraud. Check for a typing mistake, then confirm the instructions with Balmari using a contact method you already trust.

When you pay, your bank may show a Confirmation of Payee result as well. Use everything you’ve learned to decide.

Bank details match

These details match the bank details currently published by Balmari Pty Ltd through its VERIFIED organization account.

Bank details don’t match

These details do not match the current bank details published by Balmari Pty Ltd through VERIFIED.

Bank details changed recently

Updated 2 October 2026. Previous account ending ••1735, current account ending ••4821. A change isn’t suspicious on its own.

Published by the verified source

When an organization publishes bank details on VERIFIED, they’re tied to that organization’s VERIFIED identity and managed through its authorized account. VERIFIED always shows which kind of assurance applies.

Independent verification of the bank account itself would be a separate assurance. VERIFIED doesn’t offer it today and won’t show it unless it does.

What is Confirmation of Payee?

Confirmation of Payee is an Australian banking-industry service from Australian Payments Plus, offered by participating financial institutions. When you pay to a BSB and account number, it compares the account name, BSB and account number you’ve entered with the recipient bank’s records and shows you the outcome. It helps you decide; it generally doesn’t stop the payment.

Controls on the source

Bank details are treated as sensitive. Here’s what’s in place, and what’s next.

  • Only a confirmed person, or an organization’s owners and administrators, can publish bank details
  • An email notice whenever bank details are added, replaced or removed
  • Recent changes are shown, and replaced details are reported as no longer current
  • Details are stored encrypted, and checks compare what you enter without revealing the account
  • No reverse lookup by bank account, and checks are rate-limited
  • Fresh sign-in before bank details change
  • Two-factor authentication for changes
  • Optional dual approval for organizations
  • Alerts for customers when bank details change

Questions

Does VERIFIED replace Confirmation of Payee?

No. They perform different checks. VERIFIED compares payment instructions with details published by a VERIFIED identity. Confirmation of Payee checks the account details you enter against the recipient bank’s records.

Does VERIFIED confirm that a bank account belongs to an organization?

Not today. VERIFIED confirms that the bank details were published through the organization’s VERIFIED identity. Independent account verification would be shown separately if it becomes available.

Should I still review Confirmation of Payee?

Yes. If your bank shows a Confirmation of Payee result, review it before deciding whether to proceed.

What if the details don’t match on VERIFIED?

Don’t assume the invoice is fraudulent. Check for typing errors, then confirm the payment instructions with the person or organization using a contact method you already trust.

Can an organization have more than one payment account?

Yes. Accounts are labelled by purpose, such as General payments, Deposits or Trust account. A check tells you which one matched without revealing the others.

Can I search by a bank account number?

No. VERIFIED isn’t a reverse bank-account directory. Find the person or organization first, then compare the details you’ve been given.

Check at the source before you pay.

Find the VERIFIED person or organization and compare the bank details you’ve been given.
